    Traditionally a spiritual place of worship where devotees can live and extend their knowledge of a particular discipline, the most well known being, Yoga. Followers have for years journeyed to sacred Ashrams to enjoy the tranquillity of their remote locations, and allow themselves to completely immerse in the study of yoga. Originally located exclusively in India, Western society has since embraced the culture of yogic Ashrams, and now it is possible to find yoga retreats closer to home, where you can indulge in an intensive yoga course, to accelerate your yoga journey while also discovering inner peace and enlightenment.

    Hip Hop – California

    Never failing to develop something new, California can lay claim to bringing the world; Hip Hop Yoga. Still maintaining the yoga poses and techniques in a group studio environment, the calming music has been replaced with slow beat hip hop music to entice a new generation of yogis to learn about the sacred discipline and experience the health and wellness benefits of yoga, but in a more contemporary yoga studio.

    Bikram Yoga – London

    The winter months in London are freezing, and the opportunities to work out while staying warm is all so enticing, which may be the reason behind the emergence of Bikram Yoga (or ‘Hot Yoga’) into Western culture. Bikram is a form of the traditional Hatha yoga, that is performed in a heated studio, and is a relatively modern version of yoga that aims to raise your body temperature to soften your muscles to allow greater movement and flexibility, and to promote perspiration which helps rid the body of toxins. Not for the faint hearted, Bikram yoga has it’s pros and cons, as performing strenuous exercise that is designed to put the body under stress is not something that would benefit everybody.
