How To Make Your Health and Wellbeing a Priority
Improving our health and wellbeing is important for all of us but all too often we can find that life gets in the way, and our own wellbeing takes a backseat. If this sounds familiar, we’re here to help. Today, we’ll be looking at some of the ways that you begin prioritising your health and wellbeing.
Give yourself permission:
The first (and most important) thing you need to do is give yourself permission to practice self-care and focus on your own health and wellbeing. Unfortunately, a lot of people experience guilt when it comes to looking after themselves and assume they’re being selfish. Remember that prioritising your health and wellbeing doesn’t just benefit you – it also benefits those around you when you’re happier and healthier. Let go of any guilt you have and remind yourself that you’re just as important as everyone else.
Set some goals:
When it comes putting your own wellbeing first, some good old fashioned goal setting goes a long way! It’s fine to set some longer term goals but you also need to have some smaller goals in place to help you get there. Remember to be realistic – if you’ve never exercised much before, don’t commit to five hour-long sessions each week. Instead, think about aiming for a 20 minute each day to begin with. Write down your goals so you can refer back to them – they’ll also evolve over time!
Involve other people:
One of the most positive ways you can prioritise your health and wellbeing is to get other people involved. Tell your family or friends what you want to achieve so they can provide support and motivation, or even come along with you. Strengthening connections is such an important part of overall wellbeing so you could also think about going along to a regular social activity or exercise class to build new relationships.
Try a range of activities:
There are so many activities which can help you on your way to optimising your health and wellbeing, so don’t be shy about trying new things out! If you usually stick to Pilates, give boxing or circuit training a try. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, try slowing things down with yoga or meditation. Keep an eye on activities and classes in your local area and have some fun! Trying a range of activities will keep you interested and motivated.
