Beginner Pilates Melbourne CBD and Prahran - FAQs
What should I expect when beginning Pilates Reformer?
A KĀYA Pilates Reformer class is designed to cater to all levels, from beginners all the way through to advanced, challenging you both physically and mentally.
The physical challenges will come from learning and perfecting the various movements, and the mental challenges will arise from having to focus on your breath and form.
Don’t worry if you don’t get it perfect straight away – that’s what practice is for. The most important thing is that you have fun, and walk out of the class feeling like you’ve accomplished something.
What are the benefits of a beginner Pilates Reformer class?
Pilates is a great way to improve your core strength, flexibility and posture. It can also help relieve stress and tension headaches.
Kaya Pilates Reformer classes cater to all levels. Our teachers have been trained to modify exercises based on each individual’s experience. Variations to each exercise are provided.
What do I need to wear or bring to a beginner Pilates class?
You should wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in, such as leggings, shorts, tee or singlet. No footwear is required in class, however, if you prefer you can wear grip socks (available for sale at reception). You’ll also need a towel and water bottle.
I’m not very fit. Will I be able to keep up in a beginner Pilates Reformer class?
KĀYA members come from a wide variety of backgrounds and lifestyles. You should always consult with a qualified healthcare professional before starting any new exercise regime.
However, in general, beginner Pilates Reformer is a safe form of exercise for people of all fitness levels, and can even be beneficial for people with musculoskeletal injuries as a form of movement therapy.
The movements can be adapted to suit your individual needs, and your friendly KĀYA Pilates teacher will be able to give you advice on how to modify the exercises to avoid exacerbating your condition. Because the movements can be adapted, everyone can work at their own pace.
Pilates is also suitable for people of all levels of flexibility. As with all forms of exercise, the more you do it, the more flexible you will become. The key is to listen to your body and not push yourself too hard.
Your KĀYA teacher will be able to give you advice on how to modify the exercises to suit your level of experience/flexibility.
How often should I practice Pilates?
This is completely up to you, and will depend on your goals and schedule. If you want to see significant improvements in your strength and flexibility, then you should aim to practice Pilates at least 3 times a week. However, even practicing once a week will offer some benefits. Remember to listen to your body – if you’re feeling tired or sore, then take a rest day.
